About the Colorado Forward Party It's time for a new kind of political party in Colorado. A party built by the people, for the people. A party that determines priorities and the metrics to track them, from the ground up. From the people up. A party that lets communities and candidates decide what is best for them instead of dictating policy from a national convention downward. A party to drive Colorado Forward. The Colorado Forward Party is currently not a recognized party in the State of Colorado. We are in the process of pursuing party status while also building a grassroots movement to drive change at all levels of Coloradan life: in our personal lives, in our communities, across our state, and throughout the nation. As we assemble this grassroots movement, made up of every type of Coloradan, our primary focus is listening. Recognizing that we don't have the answers and that the best way to find them is by listening to each and every one of you is a big part of what sets us apart from other parties in the state. The Colorado Forward Party is focused on three primary principles: Free People: Revitalize a culture that celebrates difference and individual choice, rejects hate, and removes barriers so that each of us can rise to our full potential. Thriving Communities: Reinvigorate a fair, flourishing economy and open society where everyone can live a good life and is safe in the places where we learn, work, and live. Vibrant Democracy: Reform our republic to give Americans more choices in elections, more confidence in a government that works, and more say in our future. We look forward to building this community, this movement, and this party with you. It will take each of us to transform our state, and we are so glad you are here. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns: colorado@forwardparty.com. Onwards, Joshua Herr, Curtis Harrison, David Ryan, and Rich Herrmann State Leads, Colorado Forward Party

Speakers

  • Andrew Yang
    Andrew Yang
    Co-Chair of the Forward Party

Andrew Yang (born January 13, 1975) is an American businessman, attorney, lobbyist, and politician. Yang was a candidate in the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries and the 2021 New York City Democratic mayoral primary. He is the co-chair of the Forward Party, alongside former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman.[3]

The son of Taiwanese immigrants, Yang was born and raised in New York State. He attended Brown University and Columbia Law School. Yang became a prominent candidate in the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries. His signature policy was a universal basic income (UBI) of $1,000 a month as a response to job displacement by automation. Yang has been credited with popularizing the idea of universal basic income through his candidacy and activism.[4]

News outlets described Yang as the most surprising candidate of the 2020 election cycle, going from a relative unknown to a major competitor in the race.[5][6][7] Yang qualified for and participated in seven of the first eight Democratic debates. His supporters, informally known as the “Yang Gang”, included several high-profile celebrities.[8][9][10] Yang suspended his campaign on February 11, 2020, shortly after the New Hampshire primary.[11] After his campaign ended, Yang joined CNN as a political commentator, announced the creation of the political nonprofit organization Humanity Forward, and ran in the 2021 New York City Democratic mayoral primary.[12][13][14] Yang conceded the race shortly after the initial ranked choice votes were released, which placed him fourth.[15]

On October 4, 2021, Andrew Yang announced that he was leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent,[16] faulting what he characterized as a system stuck in increasing polarization and saying that he is “more comfortable trying to fix the system than being a part of it”.[17] Later in October 2021, Yang founded the Forward Party – a centrist political action committee and political party.
